Individual counselling & Therapy

Our human journey is a life-long process of learning, development and self-discovery. It is a journey we navigate between ‘nature’ and ‘nurture’, between our sense of ourselves and our experience of the world around us.

We come to counselling for many reasons; because we feel depressed, over-whelmed, or stuck. We sometimes have trouble with relationships: finding, keeping or ending them. We are unhappy with work. We are facing illness or grief. We have lost our sense of direction, meaning or purpose.

Throughout your counselling we will work on:

  • Deepening your understanding of yourself, appreciate your own strengths and challenges, and find resources to grow in the direction you choose.

  • Become more aware of the complex dynamics of your relationships and how you can act differently to change them.

  • Change problematic behaviours such as substance abuse, abuse, or violence.

  • Work to create a life that you find satisfying.

We will do this by:

  • Identifying your goals: How do you want counseling to help you? How do your want your life to be different? This will help you know the direction in which to head, and recognize when you get there!

  • Paying attention:  It will be important to notice what is going on when you get caught in old patterns of behaviour, or when you succeed with new ones.

  • Be realistic: Small obtainable goals help move you towards your big goals.

  • Take care of yourself:  Selfcare is making sure you are getting the support you need, taking care of your needs so that you can recharge.

  • Take responsibility: Be willing to acknowledge the contribution you are making to the pattern. Be conscious of the choices you are making and their results for others and for yourself

  • Be patient: Problems take a long while to develop and be identified; and they take just as long to be changed.
